Where to open your IRA
Any of these four is a sound, low-cost choice. Pick the one that feels easiest to you and open the account whenever you’re ready.
Fidelity
Very user-friendly website and app, excellent 24/7 customer service, and great low-cost index funds — a strong all-around pick if you want ease of use.
Schwab
Known for top-notch customer support and a great platform, especially if you also want a strong checking/banking option under the same roof.
Vanguard
The pioneer of low-cost index funds — ideal for a strictly "set it and forget it" investor, though its website and app are a bit simpler and less modern.
E*TRADE
Morgan Stanley’s do-it-yourself arm: a polished app, no commissions on stock and fund trades, and a long list of funds with no purchase fee — a fit if you want a big-name firm behind a self-directed account.
